GATHERINGS for Practitioners of Spirituality and the Arts
We are taking a break during the 2007-2008 year from offering our monthly Gatherings. If you'd like to be on our email list to be notified of when they start up again please click on the email link in the sidebar.
This program provides grounding in the expressive arts (visual art, poetry, movement, song, story) and use of the imagination and dreams for those working in one-on-one ministries of spiritual direction, counseling, and chaplaincy. This will be our 4th time teaching the Awakening program and the 2nd time in this format. The first year was a marvelous experience.
SEATTLE SPIRITUALITY & ARTS NETWORK
A network created to facilitate connections between people working in various ministries that integrate spirituality, creativity, and the arts and to continue to build community among the wonderful folks of the Seattle area. You will find individuals in the Seattle area working in the sacred arts of music, theater, poetry, collage, yoga, massage, labyrinth, spiritual direction, retreats, Reiki, and much more.
MISSION
We believe that exercising the gifts of creativity and imagination, with which we are all endowed, creates space and opportunity for encounter—with ourselves, with others, with our environment, and with the sacred dimension within and sustaining us all.
As such, we engage skilled artists and spiritual leaders, who understand the process of creative activity to be a form of meditation or prayer, in developing a spirit of supportive community amongst practitioners and, furthermore, in leading programs for residents of the greater Seattle and Puget Sound region. In designing and offering creative spiritual enrichment opportunities for the general public, we are committed to the work of making safe space for folks of varying artistic and religious experience to explore and grow, in an open, nurturing, and multifaith context.
We believe in the renewing, healing, and transformative potential of uniting spiritual practice with creative expression. Thus, the fundamental work of the Creating Space involves realization of this potential within our daily lives. To that end, we use a wide spectrum of art forms and practices as vehicles for encounter—including movement, music, drama, writing, poetry, crafts, and the visual arts—in various formats, such as classes, workshops, retreats, spiritual direction, and special events.
